The Breast Room in the House originally opened towards the end of 2011 and was registered as a Charitable Trust in November 2012.
I started the Breast Room to offer an alternative to the existing breastfeeding support services around Dunedin, and wanted it to be similar to the drop-in clinics I had experienced and worked in, in England.
We provide a confidential, one-to-one, consultation service, which is free. As a Charity we are dependent on donations and grants to continue our work. None of the people volunteering at The Breast Room receive payment, so donations are always welcome!
I coordinate and run the Breast Room and am supported by a wonderful team of trained Breastfeeding Peer Suporters. I have a Diploma in Breastfeeding Counselling, and several years experience supporting breastfeeding women both here and at the Woking Community Hospital in England. I also provide antenatal breastfeeding education classes for parents and train breastfeeding Peer Supporters.
